This house could be amazing as it is spacious and the location is great but we found it to be unsafe, grubby and shabby: the advertised photos are woefully misleading. Issues we encountered included: severe damp in basement bedroom leading to coughing for a young baby and her father (the room was unusable and they had to sleep on a sofa instead); cracks in walls and ceilings; shower water coming through light on floor below; exposed electricals in a bathroom; floorboards poking up causing trip hazards; looseknobs on cooker which can lead to a gas leak; neon light in a bedroom that never went off. In addition, the walls throught the property were grubby and marked, the carpets were stained and there was not enough cutlery or towels for the number of people advertised. Overall, I felt like I was staying in an unloved student house that was feeling the pinch of an unscrupulous owner. I booked this property, to stay in during the lead up to my wedding and I was deeply disappointed.

The house is in a great location and you can see the potential but the house is in serious need of some love and attention. We were not informed that the downstairs bathroom was blocked and unusable before our stay and with 3 families using 2 bathrooms (one of them an en-suite at the top of the house) this made it challenging. It was fixed during our stay and we have had a partial refund, but it was still unusable as it required a full clean. In addition the house itself needed a proper clean and… The dishwasher fixing Enough cutlery - we had to buy forks! Enough wine glasses Opaque window film on the bathroom windows so you can open the blinds and in the top bathroom actually shower without soaking the fabric blind New non metal, and therefore quiet, beds Soundproofing for the basement bedrooms Fix the knobs on the hob and the fridge door so it closes Provide proper instructions on working the oven, bins and heating (either boiling, off or broken) Tidy the back garden

We had and infiltration with one of the bathrooms on the first floor and the bathroom downstairs and tooms were unable to be used because it had a terrible smell, toilet downstairs was blocked and had overflow when we arrived. Airbnb and daniel did a partial refund but I feel they could have told us before we arrived as it was an ongoing issue. Other than that, the house is nice, on a great location. Daniel was fast at responding.

We were there 5 nights. Friday to the following Wednesday. More than half the time there we had no hot water or heating. Repair man came twice but the fix did not solve the problem for long.. Communication with the office on Sunday was ignored and eventually they sent an email. When the repairman came on the last day of our stay we were inconvenienced for 4+ hours and for 2+ he had to turn the water off. The living room furniture very tired looking and one couch stained. The mattress on the one queen bed poor. The front door had a major sticking problem. To open from the outside, you had to kick it. From the inside your had to do a lot of pulling with the result it caused a malfunction of the lock.. We were locked in because of resulting problems. One of the guests managed to get the lock open. The repair guy who was there on Sunday cut the door jamb to give the door more clearance. There are no written instructions regarding proper use of dishwasher, clothes washer and heating system, etc. We were fortunate the weather was mild because we did not have heating when the boiler did not work. We have rented many vacation houses around the world and a nice extra is information about local eating places, places of interest and kids parks, etc. The overall maintenance of the house is poor. The fact the counter under the boiler was always wet due to the boiler leaking problem should have been dealt with. The sticking front door not fixed. Toilet roll holder broken. Coffee table wonky. When one goes on holiday, you hope to be free of house maintenance problems. These boiler problems caused ongoing anxiety. Couldn’t take showers. On the positive side, the kitchen was well equipped, there was ample room for 6 people without using the basement. The wifi worked well. The location is Cambridge is the most positive aspect of the house and the off street parking.

Solid location, easy to walk in and out of Cambridge. Home is a bit dated and the basement is definitely musty, but the dehumidifiers help. Great to have three bathrooms, and nice little courtyard and roof top balcony. Felt private, and a small liquor mini mart is right next door which was convenient. Stairs are a bit steep and narrow for older people. Management company did not respond until shortly before trip, but was responsive after that point. Overall was good experience and definitely would recommend.

Firstly this house was in a great location, overlooking the river and Jesus Green and only a 5 minute walk into town with all the great bars, restaurants, shops and historic buildings of Cambridge. Parking at the front was a bonus and you can just about fit two small/medium cars on the drive if done carefully! 12 of us rented the house for 2/3 nights and unfortunately there was a slight damp smell as you walked into the hall from the front door. The rooms were all furnished very nicely but the front room did have a broken outer glass pane but wasn't an issue due to secondary glazing. The kitchen although had quite a few cooking essentials it didn't have any oven trays! We had to contact the guests that were arriving later, to bring our own trays so we could cook properly. Also there wasn't enough chairs for 12, 6 in kitchen but only 5 in the dining room. We had to use a garden chair as an extra. The chairs weren't particularly clean either. The upstairs bedrooms were light, airy and furnished well. The beds were very comfy and the linens were good too. The 2 upstairs bathrooms were tired but the shower power was very good although sometimes getting the right temperature was tricky. Unfortunately the big let down were the basement rooms. They look lovely and are well furnished the damp smell was overwelming and in my opinion, just not habitable. The downstairs shower room is not up to standard either. The shower didn't drain away and the toilet seat was broken and caused one of our guests to fall off the toilet. Again this room not good enough to be used. Overall for the price this was a good property to rent in the centre of Cambridge but it should be advertised as 4 bedrooms sleeping 8 + 2 in lounge not 12 + 2.

This property has been totally neglected from the outside in. We have contacted Stay Beyond numerous times and have yet to hear from their "management". If you've made a reservation to stay in this house at #27 Chesterton, Cambridge I strongly recommend you read this list first. We were infested with fruit flies due to the rotting fruit in the completely overgrown garden. You could not sit outside. The front steps are loose and dangerous. The ceiling in the hallway is stained from a leak, and the plaster is coming down. Much of the ceilings throughout the house show signs of water damage. The radiator in the living room has leaked and caused the wood floor to rot and turn black. The wood floor by the kitchen sink has also rotted. The living room furniture is stained and dirty. The kitchen is poorly equipped. The oven dials have no temperature marks and wasn't working at all. The dishwasher rails are missing on the lower basket. The bathroom downstairs had bugs, and the toilet was leaking. The shower wasn't useable. The two bedrooms on the lower level are not useable due to damp odor/mold. So we had to double up on the other four bedrooms. The second floor bathroom has black mold on the floorboards. The first floor bathroom toilet doesn't clear completely. All the woodwork in the house is dirty, with peeling paint in many places. The floors are carpets are filthy. This house is being totally misrepresented. There are only 4 useable bedrooms not 6. It isn't clean, and hasn't been maintained. It's two weeks since we left and we still haven't heard from the "management".

Excellent location with only a short walk into Cambridge. House has great space, we were 8 adults and 4 under tens and it was not cramped. House needs some TLC, broken toilet seat and window, some plug sockets not working, damp stains, basement rooms strong damp smell and a fruit fly problem. Kitchen lacking some basics and welcome email said toiletries, tea and coffee provided which they weren’t unless you count 5 x hair conditioners and 2 sachets of coffee for 14 people? The bedrooms make up for some of this as they were nice sizes with big comfy beds and bedding and nice towels. Showers were good but hot water wasn’t enough for all of us in the morning. We enjoyed our stay but the house could definitely do with some TLC to make peoples stay on par with other houses we have rented in a similar price bracket.

Unfortunately there was a missing window pane on the first floor window which was laying broken on flat roof outside This worried us security wise and caused a very cold draught throughout the first floor. We reported this and were told someone would come out but no one did. Also my son cut his foot on a screw sticking out the wrong way on one of the stairs. Apart from this the accommodation was great for us.

The property was what we wanted, beds comfortable, plenty of space, Kitchen adequately equipped.However, we felt the property is in need of some TLC eg the garden is over grown, decoration a bit worn, down stairs smelt damp and the shower there was impossible to use as was alternating scolding hot and cold. No instructions for the heating and thermastat needing new batteries. No instructions for tv and could only get films not BBC etc. . Microwave did not work. The main difficulty was last night when the front door lock failed. We had to stand out in the rain for about 45 mins in the end. Eventually 2 men came to mend it but couldn't. We had to leave the house unlocked this morning when we left. Its best quality is its location and for this we have given 4 stars.

Perfect location in Cambridge right next to the river Cam, walking distance to city center and many colleges! Would absolutely stay again!

This is the third year that a group of seven ex-Cambridge students, but now retired professional gentlemen have stayed at the property. For a group such as ours which only really requires the property to rest our heads at night, it suffices . We are out all day so the location close to centre of town is important. The proximity to the river is nice. Although some progress had been made last year concerning our comments from our first stay, this year’s visit highlighted some issues. The bathroom downstairs had a broken shower door, a temperamental loo flush and an air of damp (as reported by my colleagues). Dehumidifiers were provided which collected a lot of water. The cold water tap in the top floor bedroom did not work properly. The property would benefit from some TLC and a handyman going round for little jobs e.g. slightly wonky cupboards in the kitchen. Finally, the very squeaky metal framed double bed in the top room has to go - a nightmare for the incumbent and those below.

Easy walk from Cambridge train, bus, and colleges, but not in a noisy student area. One parking space for our car. Fabulous house for a large group, with one bathroom on each floor, an eat-in kitchen, and a large dining room. We had an excellent time. Everything was exactly as described. Top notch!

Location is perfect for walking into the city. However, house is in much need of renovation. Basement rooms very damp and smelt, house was cold, and signs of water leaks and cracks in ceilings and walls - felt like we were staying in student housing. Kitchen is not set up for cooking a meal for more than 4 people due to inadequate oven shelving and cooking trays/dishes. Back garden is too overgrown to be used - not inviting for any sort of use

The house was very clean, the heating was fantastic as was the location. The other reviews about it being dated are accurate so this was no surprise when we arrived. Being dated did not effect our stay in any way, there was plenty of space in the house so we could escape the family when needed or all come together for meals and games. We did have trouble cooking a roast dinner with only one level in the over hopefully a second level can be put in . Thank you for having us.

Positive: Location was fantastic. Only a short walk to town. Negative: Basement smelt. Basement shower didn’t work. Toilets not great at flushing. Bunk bed’s extremely unstable. All beds very noisy. No cooking trays to use in the oven. Garden over grown and not enough chairs for 12 people. Redecorating needed in most rooms. Fridge door unstable.

Overall a great space, rare to find a house of this size in this location. Beautifully situation and a good amount of space in the house. Note - no bathroom on the ground floor, you have to walk up or down stairs. A few items in disrepair that have been noted to the hosts. Would recommend this house for a large group but it wasn’t the most accessible, we ended up not using the bottom bathroom due to its smaller size so bear that in mind when booking. Enjoyable stay and lovely to be in this part of Cambridge.

The only unfortunate issue we ran into was that the sofa bed wasn't prepared for us (we couldn't find the bedding and this issue remained unresolved until checkout).

Great place gor a small group of peopletö to visit Cambridge! We were a group of 10, enjoying how close it was to walk to the centre of town! The rooms looked exactly like in the photos. For elderly people the stairs might be too steep, though. The amount of cutlery is a bit limited and the dishwasher did not work well when we were there, but it will be fixed, we were told. The top floor offers a private bathroom and a nice roof terrace.

Positive: location Negative: The house was one of the worst I've ever stayed in. All the facilities were outdated and damaged. The trash cans outside were mostly half full. Many cabinets inside the house were broken, and the basement room's bathroom was useless as there was no hot water. The oven was also broken, and the entire house willwas in a state of disrepair. On our first night, we experienced a power outage at midnight. We contacted the management company of the house, but their service was very poor. We even contacted Booking's customer service, but they suggested we call the police. Although the hotel sent someone to repair it the next day, none of the problems I mentioned were resolved. I believe that this house is not suitable for rent and should be properly maintained before being put into commercial operation

Overall, we really did like this Airbnb and the location was perfect. Home had lots of charm and was really cute, but it is an older home. The shower kept going hot and cold and we realized that only one shower could be used at a time….or maybe we were just doing something wrong. Daniel and Olivia were great to work with and I love that they give you as much info when you check in. That way you don’t have to bother them or have to wait for a response. The check out requirements were also amazing. Some places make you do a lot even though you’re already paying a cleaning fee, but not this one. We just needed to turn off the lights, close the windows and put the key back. Loved that!! I would definitely recommend this place.

The house is huge and very good value when split between 10+ people. It looks directly onto the cam, and is directly across the road from punting and Jesus Green. There are pubs a short walk down the river, and there is an off licence right next to the property which was handy. The property is clean, although it has been a little while since the most recent refurbishment. The beds are creaky, a little saggy and not the most comfortable. The water pressure isn't great and it is difficult to get the temperature right, but these are the sorts of things we were quite happy to accept given the very reasonable price of the property. No one expected a 5 star hotel, I felt like we got good value for money and the trade offs were reasonable and to be expected. The property is let through a management company who do send a detailed set of instructions, however if you need to call to check anything or make changes, there are very long waiting times to speak to anyone on the phone.

The location is this home’s saving grace, IF you can put up with the off-license and burger truck right next door, the old, old home with loose floorboards, the smell of mildew and noticeable mildew in the bathroom and basement rooms, the sticky doors, the loose handles and light fixtures, the fridge that doesn’t close, the kitchen that is lacking in rudimentary kitchen spices, the stains on the furniture and carpets, the trash left I drawers and corners…. Yeah, the location is great. Everything else. Not so great. We left the house and found another rental.

El comedor está bien, pero la cocina necesita una reforma y pintar (el horno y el lavaplatos se pueden usar pero están un poco rotos). Las toallas y las sábanas en las habitaciones son de buena calidad pero había problemas con algunas ventanas y radiadores. We were pleased to find that a lot of the issues that we had raised when staying in this property twelve months ago had been addressed. Poor toilet flushing, wonky door handles and damp concerns in the entrance hall had been dealt with and the property looked a lot fresher for a coat of paint. We were only at the property for one full day, checking in and out either side of that. It was disappointing that we received an e-mail on the evening we arrived informing us that a contractor was due the next day to repair the oven. This should have been attended to prior to our visit. Fortunately, we didn't need the oven but still had to provide access to the contractors whilst we were not in the property which was a potential security risk for us. We could not find any hand or tea towels in the kitchen and we didn't get any response to an e-mail asking for these. Some of the beds have metal bases and do not feel terribly stable and are very squeaky - particularly that in the master bedroom.

Amazing central location. Comfortable beds with lovely linen and towels. Easy check in and good communications with hosts. Property is on the market so a little tired around the edges but kitchen fully equipped, hot water running in the reasonable showers, delightful courtyard garden. Accommodated a multigenerational family gathering. My mum and dad in their 80s made it to the top floor en suite bedroom for quietude and privacy though did have to be strategic in the number of trip they made each day, as suggested in the listing!

In one bathroom the toilet seat was duck taped together. There is no freezer and the kitchen unit cover on one of the fridges was broken off the fridge.

Positive: Location Negative: Two members of our party left after a day due to the standard and conditions of the property. It is in a terrible state and should not be rented out in the condition it is in, especially in the current situation with Covid 19 and cleanliness being a top priority. We messaged through booking.com several times during our stay and were promised on two occasions that their grounds team would visit and repair but they never arrived. 1. The 1st floor toilet seat is gaffer taped up in 2 large areas and doesn’t flush properly. 2. The back garden is unusable due to debris, smoking rubbish, no cushions for furniture. 3. BBQ too dirty to use. 4. The outside fridge has an odour that made me gag it was that bad! 5. Inside top fridge door doesn’t shut properly unless you lift and shove. 6. Paint work throughout the property in poor state. 7. Handle fell off a door in basement. 8. Cooker hood dirty and light not working. 9. No instructions for any equipment. 10. Extractor fan in attic room bathroom not working, balcony in disrepair. 11. Wall light in bunk room not working. 12. Dusty and dirty throughout. 13. Knobs missing off kitchen draws. 14. Grey sofa in living room sunken at one end. 15. Not enough cutlery. 16. WiFi not working. 17. Twin bedroom door downstairs doesn’t shut.

Positive: The location of the house is great. Nice and easy to walk into town. Plenty of clean towels and toiletries provided. Clean bedding provided. Easy to collect keys from key box. Negative: Cleanliness - The house is not as polished as shown in the photos here. It's generally tired, grubby and needs a big deep clean. Countless cobwebs and spiders in all corners and brown patches on the walls. The outdoor roof terrace and garden were a total state with broken tiles and overgrown plants. This would not be safe for children. Internet/WiFi - This was not working for the entire duration of our stay. Parking - There are only spots for 2 small cars at the house and there is no street parking nearby (most spots are permit only or 2 hours max).

Positive: The location of this house is brilliant and the price is excellent value. House has lovely spacious rooms and has everything you could need. Whenever I emailed the team they would respond quickly at all hours. Overall had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to rebook for a friends weekend away Negative: The house is bit rough round the edges but nothing I wouldn’t expect from a rental in a city centre, it was acceptable and didn’t cause any problems. The rooms in the basement did smell damp but we didn’t spend much time in the house so wasn’t much of a problem. I needed 12 people to provide pictures of them with their ID with 24 hours notice, better communication around what’s required earlier than the day before would be helpful.

Positive: Location Negative: Several elements of the house need renovation. The rooms on the basement were not used by our group due to humidity and smell. Most of all I was annoyed by the complicated and time consuming procedure you have to go through in order to book this accomodation after Booking reservation. We had to send personal information and photos appart from a safety deposit. In addition I was contacted after departure that we had damaged a cabin (no cabin was located where they claimed) and after my intense protest they called back some hours later saying that it was a misunderstanding. Really pleased with the house and our stay over the weekend - we had 12 people stay Friday to Sunday, and we all had a brilliant weekend. Lovely, unique decor. Great, spacious kitchen. Amazing roof terrace, which was such a treat. Lovely, big rooms and plenty of bathrooms. So close to the town centre, and great to have views of the River. Easy access. Some guests had to park in a local car park (we used Castle Hill, relatively affordable and close to the house) as the street was permitted / pay and display over the weekend, which we didn't realise. All in all, massively recommended. Thank you!

Stayed here with a group on 11 people for a Christmas get together. We all had a wonderful time! The interior of the house is amazing, and we really appreciated the Christmas tree up in the living room. Only thing that could have been improved is that the oven only had one shelf. As we were cooking a Christmas dinner for 11 people we did struggle to fit everything in, but other than that everything was great. Perfect locations, within walking distance on the main city centre and train station.

We choose Annick’s house as we were looking for somewhere suitable for eight adults, three children and one baby within the south of England. The location is 45mins walk from Cambridge station and 45mins walk from Cambridge North station. There are two car parking spaces which was very helpful for those coming with children. It is in a nice setting near the river and park which has a children’s play area. Lots of nice local pubs for adults. There is also a wine merchant next door! The house is very spacious, set over four floors. The ground floor has lounge, kitchen and dinning room with a small courtyard garden out the back. These living areas gave ample space for our large group to sit, eat and relax together. The basement had two bedrooms, one with two singles and one double bed. There is a small showroom and toilet too. Sadly the power shower was less than powerful and the toilet, though clean, was stained with wear on the enamel. The whole basement had a damp smell. The first floor has three bedrooms, two doubles and the bunkbed room. There is one bathroom with an over bath shower which was powerful. But again was stained. The second floor has a large loft bedroom with double bed and ensuite. This has a small bath and over the bath shower which was powerful but the bathroom is tired looking. This room has a roof terrance which has railings. We sat here painting pictures with the children in the late afternoon sun which was nice. The house is quiet tired generally, which does not show in the photos. The paint finishes are also poor which sadly makes the house look very grubby. The main issue with the house was the electrics. The lights flicker on the ground floor when any other appliance is used. Each time we used the kettle it fused the ground floor. Then we had a large bang and smoke coming from the kettle. The loft room had no working power points at all. This was a big problem as we’d specially allocated this room to our friend with the baby and we had to move every one around. We informed Annick who told us she could not do anything about this at the weekend this but sent a man straight round with a new kettle. He did not speak much English so could not really discuss the issues. We felt concerned about the safety of the electrics. We felt that due to the tiredness of the property, the issues with the electrics and the fact that it is not that central, this was not worth the money we paid. I would not stay here again which is sad because it could be a beautiful house but is in need of serious TLC.

This is a great house for a large group, but note it sleeps 12 but is probably better suited for 10 max unless you don't intend to eat together (insufficient crockery), nor sit together in the living room (which only seats 8 with the furniture in there). The location is great, overlooking the river and only minutes from the city centre. The owner is in the process of doing the house up so depending what stage it is when you visit you may find things different/improved. There was nothing wrong with the house, some parts were unfinished (e.g. only undercoat on doors, or bare plaster). The house is warm, well furnished and stylish however and when complete will be even better.

Just returned from 8 nights in the house which is ideally situated in Cambridge. Having read some of the earlier comments I was slightly nervous about the communications, being moved to another property and the comments regarding the tired state of the house. First of all the communications were fast and helpful; Annick confirmed that we would definitely be in that house, she confirmed that there was parking for 2 cars and suggested a site to use for additional car parking. The house is cosmetically shabby but that did not spoil our stay. The house was clean, we were met with a welcome gift and the house was well stocked with essentials for the kitchen, the bathrooms and laundry etc. The house is right opposite Jesus green with free table tennis and tennis courts which we made good use of. 4 generations of the family had a lovely stay.

A super well located house with private double parking few minutes walk from Cambridge down town. It has 6 double bedrooms, but the 2 rooms at the basement are a bit dark and one at 1th floor only with bunk bed. It was very clean indoor, but the terrasses at ground floor and 2th floor was not cleaned at all and not ready for use. The oven did not work, even that I - following another review - asked for it to be repaired before our stay. It's a fine house, but the atmosphere more like a hotel than a private home, since it only seems to be used for renting.

The house itself is lovely; big and spacious with a lovely lounge, kitchen and dining area as well as spacious bedrooms and lovely outdoor space and it could be an absolutely beautiful property. However, there were a number of maintenance issues that did impact on the enjoyment of our stay, meaning it didn't feel like great value for money and the house hadn't been properly turned over since the last occupants (dirty towels left in the machine etc). We also had some problems accessing the property and struggled to get hold of the management agency whose contact details we were provided, both on arrival and during the stay. There didn't seem to be anyone based locally who could assist us and it took us over an hour to get into the property, after many phone calls and much chasing of the agency.

Great location, comfortable beds
Lovely house near to Cambridge city centre so great for a large family gathering. The rooms were lovely, if a little tired around the edges, but the beds were extremely comfortable. Kitchen was large but impractical to cook for many as the cooker was small and there were basic essentials missing like a scissors, a cheese grater or grill pan. Response from the local owner was very fast however when we had an issue with the bins. All in all a good find!
